Why does being part of the UBoC community make business sense?
Our project sponsors explain:
Employee Engagement
“The team at Deloitte has really got behind our rainforest project in Tanzania. They’ve committed to donating more than £300,000 through their own fundraising efforts and we’re currently running a national competition for three of them to go out and visit the project to see the benefits they’ve brought to local people.”

Corporate Social Responsibility
“Like many businesses, we want to give something back, but it’s hard to know how we can make a real difference. UBoC enables us to support a verified project which we know will deliver and I believe that if businesses work together in this way, we can have a huge impact.”
Sir Michael Bibby, chief executive, Bibby Line Group

Customer Loyalty
“Our family business has pledged to help protect an area of rainforest the size of Yorkshire, and for the first phase we’re supporting a UBoC project in Peru’s Amazon Rainforest. Our customers are showing great support for our campaign and it’s giving us the opportunity to build long term relationships with customers who see good value in our own good values.”

Carbon Credits
“In the not-too-distant future, I expect to see carbon starting to be used as a ‘currency’. Savvy businesses need to be aware of the potential of emerging carbon markets.”

Business Synergy
“Renewable energy and sustainable electronic design is of major importance to the future of our industry. UBoC has enabled us to partner with tribes in the remote Mahale Mountains in western Tanzania to provide solar fridges for the storage of vaccines, giving us the opportunity to start a partnership that demonstrates sustainable technologies in action.”

Global Community
“As a key part of a global company, we work hard to make our team feel that they are part of a worldwide community. By supporting the Rewak-Emangri elephant corridor in India, we are able to unite behind a common goal and feel that by working together we are also helping to keep another community together.”
Stephen Woodford, Chairman & chief Executive Officer, DDB Media

Think Global, Act Global![]()
“As a York-based organisation, we tend to direct our community support budget to organisations and projects which benefit directly the area where the majority of our employees live and work, but this is a worldwide issue that affects us all. We are very pleased to join with Bettys and Taylors, one of our most respected fellow Yorkshire family-owned businesses in supporting this admirable initiative.”

Becoming Carbon Neutral
“The nature of our work means that our consultants do travel the world and we appreciate that there are very positive business benefits to be gained by taking positive action to offset our carbon emissions. UBoC was able to help us to calculate our carbon footprint, give us advice about ways of reducing our energy usage and enable us to purchase the relatively small number of Plan Vivo credits we needed to offset our footprint, enabling us to become carbon neutral. It’s fantastic to know that by supporting this project we will also be helping to improve the livelihoods of some of the poorest people in Africa.”
Jane Barrett, managing director of Workmaze
