Forest cover in the project area is under threat due to increasing pressure from agricultural expansion as a result of increasing population coupled with unsustainable crop and charcoal production.
Background
The Trees of Hope project is being implemented in two districts (Dowa and Neno) of central and southern Malawi respectively; where rural community members voluntarily engage in the establishment of appropriate forestry and agro-forestry land-use systems for carbon sequestration and provision of other livelihood benefits.
Project Objectives
The major objective is to improve livelihoods in the targeted communities through a forestry based, community-led payment for ecosystem services program, planned and delivered according to Plan Vivo Systems and Standards.
Project Activities
The project will involve the establishment, management and utilization of forestry and agro-forestry land-use systems on household or community-owned land.
Funding Required
Funding is flexible and any contribution is welcome.
